About

The mission of the Mad River Nordic Ski Club is to promote cross-country skiing in the Mad River Valley, and to provide race support for skiers who wish to compete against others in New England. We are located in an ideal place for this endeavor—within striking distance of some of the best cross-country ski areas in New England, including the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Middlebury's Rikert Ski Touring Center, and Ole's Cross Country Ski Center right here in Waitsfield. Cross-country skiing is a sport that allows people of all ages and levels of experience to enjoy the winter that is such an integral part of living in Vermont.

The Mad River Nordic Ski Club, in conjunction with the Nordic Program at the Green Mountain Valley School, provides coaching, wax and ski support, transportation, and clinic opportunities to members. We host practice every week, trying to be flexible with everyone's hectic schedules, and provide transportation and support for races around New England on the weekends. Young members of the program can race in the Bill Koch Youth Ski League (BKYSL). Older racers compete in New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) races, as well as more informal, local races in the Valley and nearby.

Nordic ski racers are some of the fittest people on the planet. Dedicated skiers of any age will undoubtedly experience fitness and general strength gains. Our experienced coaching staff facilitates these gains with training plans and technical instruction: our program is great for a youngster looking to get some racing experience, a high school student hoping to ski in college, or a masters skier trying to get exercise after work on the weekdays.
